You might hear the legend of Chang’ E and moon-cake. By that legend, it was a magic medicine that made her fly to moon.

The magic medicine

In ancient China, the king, even the jade emperor in the heaven wished to be ever-young, so they tried to seek and make medicines. Finally, the rabbit helped the jade emperor make it successfully, and it was strictly managed to avoid everyone to be immortal. But one time, the Mother Queen of Kunlun Mountain pushed rabbit to get one more pill; the rabbit was punished to stay on the moon alone.

At that time, there were ten Suns rising in the sky, which scorched all crops and drove people into dire poverty. A hero named Hou Yi was much worried about, he ascended to the top of Kunlun Mountain, directed his superhuman strength to full extent, drew his extraordinary bow and shot down the nine superfluous Suns one after another. He also ordered the last Sun to rise and set on time.

For this reason, the Mother Queen gave him a pill of magic medicine. But he still wanted to live with his wife Chang’ E, so they just kept it secretly.

Because Hou Yi was so well-known, many people came to him as apprentices. A person named Feng Meng lurked in them. One day, Hou with other people went out for hunting, Feng pretended to be sick and stayed in home to steal the medicine, Chang’ E had to swallow the pill as an emergency.
